All of us struggle with the work-life balance.
But it goes deeper than that.
We struggle with the present-future balance.
How much can we think about the future when we have to deal with the present and try to be in the moment.
How much can we be in the moment when there’s a future to think about.
I don’t see this struggle ever to end or resolve.
It is what it is.
Until the end of time.
Hi Uwe, nice — mercifully brief & cogent — post. Like many, I struggle with presence and have “Be Here Now” as a mantra in the back of my mind much of the time. According to my friends at MindTime, this is pretty hard wired as I orient 46.5% to the past & 46.5% to the future, leaving me HERE just 7% of the time. With that past/future split it should be no surprise that I’m a Shakespearean scholar who writes science fiction novels. My question: do you think the Internet revolution has changed the dynamic that he Dalai Lama identifies in any way?
Best,
Brad Berens

The digital transformation has made it more complex. Now, we’re here 7% of the time but 95% of that time we’re virtually here. Only 5% are we really here in the moment. Wait, that makes 5 minute in a day or so. Oy.
