Seoul is filled with thousands upon thousands of adorable coffee shops. Many of them feel homey and we’ve adopted a few as our regular spots. One my new favorites in Seoul is Hoho Myoll Cafe near Hongdae. It’s stuffed with character – there are hanging bronze pots and pans, a VW van parked in the middle of the cafe and filled with a few tables and chairs for lounging, and notes and drawings covering the walls.
One can even sit inside the bus and enjoy the coffee and food. Since I was alone, I didn’t try it out. Next time.
No, this is not the car of a hoarder. The whole cafe is filled with little things and knick knacks. All collected with a lot of love and attention to detail.
Given my work schedule based on Korea being 16 hours ahead of Los Angeles, I tend to have some open time in the afternoon. While Amsterdam had a coffee culture, the real tradition is the beer culture with all its old bars and pubs. Seoul is definitely the city of coffee culture. We will be here 4 weeks but I don’t think I have the chance to even see 10% of the cafes I should see. What impresses me the most is the attention to detail and the love was put into the creating these little oasis in the concrete jungle.
Numerous notebooks were filled by patrons with love notes for the cafe. Love spawns love.
If you are in Seoul, make sure to stop by at this little paradise. And buy as many pastries as you can. The apple banana muffin was the best muffin I ever had. Out of this world.
